“ Houdini died at Grace Hospital on Sunday, October 31, at 1:26 p.m. Dr. Kennedy listed the cause as ‘Diffuse peritonitis (streptococcic).’ By a weird happenstance, when HOUDINI (the magician’s eponymous stage show) was packed up and sent back to New York, the bronze coffin Houdini had ordered for his buried-alive stunt was temporarily lost in a Detroit warehouse. Left behind, it was now used for his corpse.”
